Founder and guide
After spending more than 10 years working at a bank, I ditched the corporate world and qualified as a chef. I’ve worked in restaurants in Johannesburg and Zanzibar and later became a freelance food critic.
After moving to, and falling in love with, Cape Town, I set up Eat Like a Local to share my experience of Cape Town’s vibrancy and rich variety of flavours with locals and visitors alike.
In addition to being a chef and a self-confessed travel addict, I’m also a qualified and registered tour guide and it would be my pleasure to guide you during your next trip to Cape Town.
Why not join me in exploring Cape Town’s hidden gems on a quality guided food tour? Your taste buds and senses will thank you.
We love sharing the delicious food, robust history and vibrant culture Cape Town has to offer. South Africa has a painful history but we believe that food transcends differences and unites people. Our experiences are curated to connect you to one of the greatest food cities in the world and the people within it.
We have curated unique food experiences with local partners who share our passion for food. During our tours, guests will get to meet and interact with some of them.
We are proud to share our history, culture, and culinary knowledge with you. Let us take you on a journey that avoids the tourist traps and show you where and how the locals eat. We can’t wait to introduce you to Cape Town!

“Scheduled for our first full day in South Africa, but what a great way to start. Rupesh is a guy you’d invite to your wedding! The places and the tastes he shows you are wonderful. Don’t miss out!“
