After spending more than 10 years working at a bank, I ditched the corporate world and qualified as a chef. I’ve worked in restaurants in Johannesburg and Zanzibar and later became a freelance food critic.

After moving to, and falling in love with, Cape Town, I set up Eat Like a Local to share my experience of Cape Town’s vibrancy and rich variety of flavours with locals and visitors alike.

In addition to being a chef and a self-confessed travel addict, I’m also a qualified and registered tour guide and it would be my pleasure to guide you during your next trip to Cape Town.

Why not join me in exploring Cape Town’s hidden gems on a quality guided food tour? Your taste buds and senses will thank you.

I’m a food and wine lover with a passion for curating local experiences. Born and bred in the mother city. I started my travel business in 2014 and have been a certified tour guide ever since.

I look forward to showing you what our beautiful city has to offer.

Susan

I have been involved and working with food, in one way or another, most of my adult life. From catering to training chefs to managing and developing training projects for unskilled workers in the food industry, food and hospitality was always at the core. It is truly my passion.

More recently I spent 10 years working with organic vegetables in the UK and developed an interest and deep appreciation for sustainability and where our food comes from. An unplanned (read Covid) extended stay in the holiday town of my childhood, Hermanus, lead to an unplanned relocation. We fell in love with the place and its people and simply couldn’t leave!

This tour combines my love for Hermanus and passion for food and I would love to share that with you.

Social
Responsibility

South Africa has one of the most diversified and advanced economies in Africa. However, as a developing country there are many people struggling with issues such as unemployment and homelessness.

Research shows that for every 30 new tourists to a destination one new job is created. By travelling to South Africa, you have already made a difference in someone’s life!

At Eat Like a Local, we believe that food is not only a way to connect with cultures, but also a way to give back to communities. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the Sense of Taste Chef School in their incredible social responsibility initiatives.

As part of our commitment to making a difference, for every guest who joins one of our tours, we donate a meal to someone in need. This is made possible through the amazing efforts of our friends at Sense of Taste, whose outreach programs are focused on feeding vulnerable communities, supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds, and uplifting individuals through food.

By joining an Eat Like a Local tour, you’re not just tasting the flavours of Cape Town – you’re helping to nourish someone else. Thank you for being part of this important mission and helping us make a positive impact, one meal at a time.
